HEY THERE! I'M LIZ - golden girls guru, thrift store addict, farmer's wife, and mama to 3 little stinkers

I’m Liz Woods - the girl behind the camera! I’ve been doing photography for 5 years on the side. At my full time job, I’m a speech-language pathologist assistant (or speech teacher for short) for a local school corporation. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Jeff, and we have 3 kids - 8, 6, and 3. Our family farms around 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans, and we also raise and sell show pigs.

My primary job is within the halls of a small school district working as a speech-language pathologist assistant (SLPA). My supervisor and I provide speech and language services to 100+ students, ranging from preschoolers to seniors. A typical day consists of working on the /r/ sound, teaching social pragmatic skills to a student with autism, increasing a student's vocabulary, and the occasional belly laugh from a kindergartener's wild imagination. There is never a dull moment, and I can truly say that I love my job!

A lot of people ask how I got started in photography. I’d say I’ve always been pretty creative, but I would say it all started when I was in high school. My senior year, I joined the yearbook staff (if we’re being totally honest, I was just looking for an easy class to take my senior year). But, I ended up totally invested in it. I loved tinkering with the camera and taking photos. I really wish I could go back in time and teach my younger self how to actually use a camera, now that I’ve learned so much since then!

But, that’s part of the process I guess. I also loved the sales side of it, and I would actually carry a Yellowpages phone book around (really showing my age here), and I would sit at the phone during yearbook class or during a study hall and call all the businesses listed in there. For real, I went through the entire thing - A to Z. That ended up being the most profitable year for our yearbook because we sold so many ads!
